The saying “Expect the unexpected” doesn’t apply to everyone, because you can’t expect anything to be fit up to accuracy. For Jocelyn Espinosa, it was at the age of 10 that she lost her baby sister, putting her in a place of refusing to talk to anyone or being her normal self.
Nothing makes sense until you grow up and get a grasp of the reason behind everything placed in front of you. Jocelyn was in a rush adjusting to her life when her parents decided to move to San Jose.
Jocelyn Espinosa said, “My parents both had benefits when they chose to move to San Jose, because my dad preferred the weather here than over there. Also, most of my mom’s family lived in San Jose and they got to reconnect once we came.”
Throughout her childhood, she felt more alive because she wasn’t stressing about anything. As a child, you don’t question much since your mind is still developing and anything that happens in front of your eyes is not in your control.
As a child she had more than one thing to adjust to, but what made it more difficult was how she’d think about what life would be like if her baby sister was still around.
Jocelyn stated that coping with the loss of her baby sister helped her turn her sensitivity into strength: “Everything I’ve been through, each was a lesson and taught me to push through. I would be a sensitive mess if it weren’t for all that.”
Eventually, the stress that Jocelyn Espinosa didn’t expect to receive, was received. Her world felt like it had a full 360 spin on her life and she refused to talk to anyone about it.
She didn’t want to believe everything that was happening so she didn’t reach the ability to be comfortable with saying her feelings aloud.
Two years later after the loss of Jocelyn’s baby sister, she heard she was having a baby brother. Living in the problematic world that we do, she knew that she didn’t want him to be placed in any of the bad categories and that she wanted him to succeed in every way he could.
With having her baby brother coming along, she feels that she could build memories with him that were cut short with her baby sister.
Jocelyn is now a junior in high school and her baby brother is still in the process of growing up. Once she finishes college and completes her future goals, her baby brother won’t be a baby anymore and will be in Jocelyn’s footsteps!
