Everyday I think about something that I can’t go without for a minute. It’s not a TV or my laptop; it’s my phone that I’m so attached to. Each day it’s like a person asking me for attention, something I try to resist but fail to.
My phone enables me to do many things that are convenient : browse online, check the time, provide GPS, etc. However, I don’t use my phone for those things. I mainly rely on it to browse the web, use social media, and watch YouTube. I can’t even stop using my phone for these things . I depend on my phone for its utilities so much that I am attached to it, although it has helped me a few times, one of them was where I was finishing my timeline project for a history class and it helped me find information on events that i had to include on it.
It’s as if the phone is speaking to me whenever I put it down, telling me, “Use me, you know you want my attention. You have notifications.” I try to resist the temptation of checking my phone, but I ultimately fail and continue to use it again, this impacts me as most of my attention is diverted towards this one singular device in my hand.
Not a minute goes by where I’m not using my phone. No matter what I do each day to try to not use my phone, I still can’t resist the urge or temptation to use it. It’s like voices are telling me, “You have notifications on my phone. Use it. We know you want to. Don’t resist it.
Do we really need all this technology? Do we really need phones? Nowadays, I try to spend less time with my phone by playing vieo games, doing homework, and watching TV, but it has nonetheless turned me into a clingy person I never thought I’d be--like a kid that is glued to his favorite toy and can’t let go of it.
