Becoming president in 2009, Barack Obama brought many positive things that changed the United States: such as Obama Care, net neutrality, and ending wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Eventually in 2015, net neutrality was created under his administration. Net neutrality is a service that allows everyone to browse the internet freely and roam social medias without any restrictions without the need to pay extra.
With net neutrality, internet providers such as AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, and others, are prohibited from charging us extra money and slowing down our sites as long as net neutrality exists.
Being able to use the internet the way we want is important and convenient to everyone, including students because students will be able to do some research for their homework or projects.
For other people, net neutrality is important because some people design the websites themselves and it is unfair for their sites to get slower.
However, at the end of 2017 to early 2018, the F.C.C wanted to remove net neutrality. On FCC Ajit Pai’s statement, he said, “ By contrast, online traffic is exploding, and we consume exponentially more data over time.”
This example shows that he wants to remove net neutrality because people are using too much internet and are abusing it, which causes more traffic outside. Therefore, by removing it, they will also earn more money due to charging people more money for sites they view if they over used their limit. However by removing it, it will impact many people, including myself.
Accordingly to Minh Le, a senior at Yerba Buena High school stated that removing net neutrality will affect him due to the fact that he will have to pay more than usual. He said, “It’s unfair that some sites will be faster than others.”

Specific sites, such as internet providers sites like T-Mobile.com, Xfinity.com, and other sites will be faster because they want you to be on their website to look at their products. However, on some sites or apps, you might start to see your screen take longer to load due to being slowed down by the internet providers. Due to what he said, it shows that without net neutrality it will affect other people, including himself, because not everyone has a lot of money to pay more for internet. It will be unfair since some people have advantages over others. For example, some people have better jobs and have more money than others, so net neutrality won’t affect them because hey have the money to pay for internet.
From my point of view, net neutrality is important to me because I use a lot of internet to play games, watch tv shows, and browse the internet. Each month I consumed about 40gb of T-Mobile data on my phone. Removing net neutrality will affect me because it will limit the way I play games and watch T.V. shows because now I will have to stop using the internet more than usual. For other people who don’t have a good paying job, they will have to be careful and use their data wisely by setting their phone to data usage limit so that they won’t accidentally over use the limit and get overcharged.
At the end of the day, net neutrality shouldn’t be removed because it treats everyone equally for the way they browse and use the internet. Net neutrality will change many lives because it gives people freedom for using how much data they want and preventing people from being stress from worrying about paying extra bills. As a result, keep net neutrality the way it is so many people will be happy.
