The stress that students carry daily could be negatively impactful due to the risk of causing harm to the body. Without a doubt, we need to make a change to help students carry stress over school work.
Everyday we wake up thinking about what schoolwork is due.
I personally feel stress with every homework assignment I get because I don’t know if I have enough time to finish it. At the beginning of the school year, I was doing great with my classes and getting used to the expectations each teacher had. Halfway through the school year, my math class was shut down for not having enough students, which was horrible for me because I was finally understanding the methods we were using.
From January to now, I feel uncomfortable being in my new classes because I feel dumb not understanding what the teacher wants me to do. I feel like I’m being held down by all the homework I have and doing work way different than the one I got used to doing. Being in softball makes me be with others and gives me a chances to get fresh air from being worried if I would fail a class causing me to be kicked out of the team for not having grades.

According to Nationwide Children, the recommended hours to sleep for an adolescent are nine hours. However, some students have to stay up late to get work done and get about 5 hours of sleep each day. With the school work piling up daily, it’s impossible to get enough sleep while doing all your work.
It would be impossible for a student to get 9 hours of sleep if they feel pressured to have homework done the next day.
Melissa Herrera, a freshman from Yerba Buena High School, said, “It depends if I understand the material and for projects I will have to pull an all nighter to finish them or several nights to finish.”
Melissa also said, “I sleep anywhere from 8 hours or under, but never less than 4 hours.”
The American Psychological Association found out that students stress levels are higher than adults.
People stress out about every aspect of life involving family, friends, school, money, etc.. As a high school student starts finding out who they are as a person and being around new people they have to get along with, it can affect their mental health by not knowing if they would fit with others. Students also stress during presentations because they don’t want to mess up and get laughed at. Their hearts pounding against their chest makes the student stress.
Sometimes the stress the teacher carries can be passed on to the students. For instance, some teachers do not have the proper budget necessary to give the students what they need. In some communities, there is no transportation to get to school, which can give the student stress.
Kimberly Hernandez, a junior from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, said, “Well, outside problems make it harder to focus on school and it’s hard to deal with both at the same time.”
I personally believe that counselors should connect with students more often and check in with them for the well being of the student.
Kimberly also said , “Expectations, trying to get everything you have done turn out to be good while still being able to get rest and have fun
and being a decent person.”
To all the stress that people have there is a couple of ways to overcome it by having a better time management. Have some time for you to relax and do something you enjoy, such as reading, sports, listening to music, etc.. Yes, stress is something we all carry, but don’t let it get to you because little moments matter now.
