Having to deal with constant stress is quite difficult because it makes me feel exhausted mentally and physically, overwhelmed, and sometimes causes me to procrastinate. For example, it’s hard having to do homework when my mind and body are so tired and I just want to leave it for later.
One of the main reasons why I get stressed is because I wake up early in the morning five days straight, every single week, and then go to school for 7-8 hours, with the addition of homework, projects, having to study, and soccer practice and games. And then on the weekends, have a lot of work to do.
According to NPR, homework is a leading cause of stress, with many parents saying it’s an issue for their child. They can see and tell that their child is deep in a lot of work. Sometimes it’s just really hard for them to wake up in the morning from bed.
In my experience as a student, I’ve basically been stressed my entire life with school. Something I experience each year, especially around finals time, is feeling like giving up; I just want to rest and not think about school. Personally, I think that school shouldn’t be 5 days a week and no more than 5 hours long each day.
Sometimes I’ll just crash when I get home from school. Then, when I wake up, I still have in mind that I have to finish all my work. Not only do I have to worry about getting my school work done, but also with other stuff and activities like soccer practice and doctor appointments. It just causes me to feel really tired at the end of the day.
Whenever I wake up, I feel so tired and as if I’m not getting enough sleep. Even if I tried to sleep early, I just can’t due to catching up with homework. I’ll arrive to class all tired, probably even still half asleep. This causes me fall behind, not turn in some assignments, and procrastinate. In addition, my grades sometimes get reduced due to the incomplete work. Suddenly, everything keeps on repeating and repeating until my grade falls really low.
What matters is that I am learning how to manage my stress as best I can. For example, I try to go to sleep earlier, I make myself a little schedule of things I need to get done and when. These practices help me keep track of things happening and staying organized.
