Growing up I've always listened to music but one song that I really liked was “m.A.A.d city” by Kendrick Lamar because of its smooth flow and creative lyrics.
One of the meanings of the title is “ My Angels Angel Dust”. What many people do not know is that the angel on angel dust was actually Kendrick himself. The first time he was gonna smoke, his weed was laced with cocaine which caused him to have a seizure.
One of my favorite lines in “m.A.A.d city” is when Kendrick says, “seen a light skinned person with his brains blown out at the same burger stand were we hung out.” This is my favorite line because he was able to write/rap about this moment like if its nothing.
He later says “Aye yall. Duck. That’s what momma said when we was eating the free lunch.” Kendrick and his family were attending a free food service in a park right around the corner from where they lived. It was a just another ordinary Sunday for him and his family until hell broke loose, when all of a sudden all they could hear were gunshots. There he was literally inches away from death.
The reason why this is my favorite songs of all time is because Kendrick Lamar literally lived through hell as a child. From witnessing murder, to being laced by a drug dealer, to him and his family almost being murdered, to, finally, him being peer pressured to stage a robbery at his very first job. He still managed to get out of his old ways and write a song about his past experiences.
This shows how he managed to get out of the streets of Compton and grew into a better person in life.
