All throughout the internet, memes vary in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Examples of bigger memes would be Doge and smaller ones would be like the Me quede asi ira meme.
There is not only one type of meme, but there are many subclasses of a meme. Some subclasses are animemes, fried memes, political memes, ascended meme, video game memes etc.
To begin our analysis of how memes affect us, we will first know what a meme is. According to Lifewire, a meme is basically an idea or concept that is expressed is some form of content on the web.
A meme can be a photo, video, person, animal, fictional character, an event, song, belief, an action, GIF, symbol, word or anything else. To gain the title of “meme” it must be massively shared by many people on social media. In simpler terms, a meme is something that has gone viral and that everyone likes. To find internet memes you can go to 4chan, Reddit, or Tumblr.
Now to focus on how memes affect an anonymous memer (A person who posts memes on their social media). I asked him what made him become a meme page and he said “I wanted to make money and do advertising and maybe even start changing the account into an e-commerce [To buy or sell products through the internet] advertisement once it gets popular.”
I then asked him about his thoughts on the meme community and how is it changing or if it is not. He responded with
“The memes are getting more insulting.”
Next, I asked him about people who criticize or hate the memes he posts. “They are taking something [memes] that shouldn’t be taken seriously too seriously,” he responded.
A person viewing memes has a different perspective of memes compared to memers. I asked two close friends who view memes what kinds of memes do they prefer on their feed meme viewer.
“Memes with fatalistic humor and broken English,” Quetzalcoatl answers.
“Just funny memes in general,” states Spoodle.
The next question I asked was opposite: What memes do you dislike?
“The deep-fried memes thing,”
said the memer that goes by “Quetzalcoatl.”
“Offensive memes, but not memes that indirectly offend you,”
said another memer that goes by the nickname “Spoodle.”
Then, I asked them what they thought on people who took memes too seriously.
“I mean it depends on what the meme is about. For the most part, I don’t know I guess those people just need to lighten up because in the end it’s just a joke,” Quetzalcoatl said.
“I would see it as silly because it’s just a meme dude,” said Spoodle.

Some of the negative aspects of memes is they are flawed. They are flawed in the sense that some memes will low blow other people and use pretty offensive captions to go with their image. One other flaw is the fact that they do not last very long, they are still recognised but no one find them that funny.
Memes affect people differently and people's reactions are varied. Yet, one thing is for sure memes: memes affect how we think as a society.
For example, according to Teen Vogue, 10% of Floridians who were surveyed on Public Policy Polling believed that Ted Cruz is The Zodiac Killer. According to Vox, the reason Ted Cruz was thought to be the Zodiac Killer was because he matched the general description of the Zodiac Killer and he was accused of being him, until a further investigation by Philip Bump.
Another example of this also happened during the 2016 Presidential Election. When Hillary Clinton was under fire for her Deleted emails in the meme community and real-world this reached meme status because of the bad timing that these claims were brought up.
In the end, memes are everywhere and they affect the daily life of a person. In my case, any funny meme makes me happier when I see them. Memes influence our society in many ways from deciding who is going to be president to making someone's day.
