Although there are millions of games out there in the world, including genre such as adventure, role playing, survival and open world games; first-person shooter genre stands out for me the most.
First-person shooter is a type of genre where players get to play as the protagonist in first person view and experience all of the action. There are many first person shooter games such as Halo, Call of Duty, Counter Strike and much more. However, out of the three of these games, I prefer Halo for many reasons.
Halo was the first video game I ever played when I was 8 years old, and it has impacted me due to how amazing the game is. This game got my attention due to the well written story. Halo is about the character Master Chief, whose real name is John. In the game, you see Master Chief and his sidekick, Cortana, a fictional \ artificial intelligence character saving humanity from the alien invasion known as the “covenant.”
As we play the game, it gets very emotional, due to the character deaths. After finishing Halo 3, I felt very sad because it was the last chapter to the story. The way the writer ended the story made it very emotional. In the end, Master Chief succeeded on making the world become a peaceful place for humanity and the covenant. In result of saving the world, Master Chief remained stuck in space, which made the marines believe he died as a hero.
The ending left us with a cliffhanger of Master Chief saying to his artificial intelligence Cortana, “wake me when you need me,” while they are on the ship that was stuck in space.
Halo multiplayer mode is another reason why I prefer Halo over other games due to how competitive the game can be. For example, in Halo, there are many game modes such as capture the flag, strongholds, slayer and much more. What makes Halo so competitive compared to other first person shooter games is that it takes raw skills and consistency with your shots in Halo. While for Call of Duty, it takes one second for the enemy to die, which takes no skills.
Accordingly to my cousin, Austin, who plays Call of Duty and Halo, said Halo requires more skill. "In Halo, you have to line up your shots, shoot at least five times in the head in order to get the kill, and you have to know how to strafe, which is by having good movement.” Not only do I agree on that with my cousin, but in Halo, the game is more balanced and as a result of each time dying you have to wait at least 8 seconds to respawn.
Every map there is one or two power weapons, which makes the game more competitive due to how each teams have to fight for the power weapons which includes, sniper rifle, rocket launcher, and power ups like overshield. While for Call of Duty anyone can get power weapons if you get kill streaks, which makes the game unfair and not competitive. In Halo, everyone also starts off with the same weapons and abilities, which makes each player have the same advantage.
In the end, Halo is the greatest game I’ve ever played. As you can see, Halo is a great game and has impacted me. I still play Halo even to this day.
