It’s 3:24 AM. I can’t help but be stuck in my feelings while writing out my next poem in my notes. As I struggle writing what I think is perfect, my thoughts & my doubts are drowning me.
You’d probably think that poetry is an easy hobby, something that requires rhythm in it all the time, as if it’s a rap song or using famous people’s phrases all the time. Well, you’re kind of getting an idea of what it takes to make a poem.
I always try to put as much time and thought into making my poems and put a hint of rhythm in it. But when I write my poems, I isolate myself in my world of thoughts, knowing that such a way of writing can build or destroy others I care about.
The poetry I create is mostly based off my life experiences that have significantly affected me. It takes a lot of courage for me to provide what I felt during certain time periods and writing it down on paper.
I got into poetry after suffering my first breakup back in 7th grade. It hurt me and taught me the most. That somethings can’t stay sweet forever because there will always be a bitter ending no matter how easy you put each other down. I found poetry as a way to release my inner feelings in a healthy way, and that I wouldn’t have to use others as a punching bag.
Sometimes I stress out because I can’t find the words that I truly want to convey, such as “know that you’re not on your own. I’ll be here to make you feel less alone.”
The purpose of me writing poems most of the time is to help others who are going through hardships and need help in viewing the brighter side of the situation.
I hope hearing how I make my own poems gives you a better knowledge of how to make such a meaningful poem that also serves a purpose.
