When a teenager is starting their teen years you would expect them stop start going out and having the time of their lives or out going to a friend's house. When in reality our generation isn't like that nowadays, teens are going out to do drugs or go buy drugs without knowing the consequence.
In an article titled, "Highly potent weed has swept the market raising concerns about health rises," from NPR Public Health says, "Around 26 million Americans ages 12 and older report using marijuana or any other type of drug."
Teens think it's okay to use drugs but they have no idea what they are doing to their body. Many teens are starting to use drugs without thinking about the consequences.
Drugs can cause you to end up in hospitals or even cause a disorder. Certain drugs contain THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol a compound that is the main active ingredient of cannabis.
In an article titled, "Highly potent weed has swept the market raising concerns about health rises," from NPR Public Health says, "People who consume high THC they end up in the ER and end up vomiting non stop and have intense stomach pain which is actually a syndrome called, Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome".
Many teens don't know the damage that they are doing to their body by using drugs that have THC.
A student at Yerba Buena High School who is named S.V, will only use her initials to keep her information private. She doesn't think anything bad could happen to her by consuming marijuana or wax. She hasn't really heard any information about someone ending up in a hospital for the usage of marijuana or was which makes her think she is safe.
As she consumes these drugs she thinks she will be fine without knowing the damage she is doing to her brain.
In an article, "Drugs on the teen brain" from New York Times upfront says, "Doing any type of drug is at risk of damaging the brain especially teens since the brain doesn't fully develop until mid 20's"
A teen brain isn't fully developed and the more they use drugs the more they are damaging their brain.
Many teens use marijuana, in a survey--conducted by me--that forty students at Yerba Buena High School took, 55% of students admit to consuming marijuana. Marijuana is the most popular drug that teens use but they have no clue what there is in marijuana.
According to an article titles, "Surgeon general sounds alarm on risk of marijuana addiction and harm," from NPR it says, "Many drugs can contain up to 75% THC especially cannabis".
If only teens would have known what marijuana contains they wouldn't be consuming the drug nor even thing about the drug.
Some teens even get pressured to do drugs and that's how some teens get introduced to drugs. In survey--conducted by me-- the forty students took at Yerba Buena High School, 17.5% of students have been pressured to do drugs.
Teens shouldn't ever be pressured to do drugs because if they are pressured they have no idea what they are consuming because they may be new to the drugs.
"I was pressured one time and it was to take some pills but I didn't end up taking it" said S.V.
Imagine if she were to take those pills she wouldn't have known what she is putting in her system and she could have ended up in the hospital. It was good that she didn't consume the pill and decided to say no right away.
Teens may do drugs for any type of reason which may be depression, to relax, or they could be doing it for the fun of it.
"I do it for the fun of it and to let out the stress," said S.V. There are times when she does it to relax and be stress-free but it's mainly for the fun of it.
As a teen myself I know many teens do it to feel "high" as they say and just for the fun of it. When in reality they are damaging their body and brain by consuming any type of drug.
If teens were to learn more about marijuana or any other drug they consume does to their body they may stop using drugs. Many teens get addicted fast and can't stop consuming drugs.
"I don't know if I'll ever stop but if when I'm older and I have kids I'll stop because I don't want them to see me like that or have the idea to do drugs," said S.V. She doesn't think she will be able to stop as any other teen would have said.
They start at a certain age and later on can't stop because they have fallen deep for the usage of drugs.
Teens damage their body and drain by consuming drugs but that should change even if it takes time.
