On the sideline, the San Francisco 49ers stand with their right hand over their heart, ready to honor the veterans and our country with the national anthem. Player Number 7, Colin Kaepernick, was kneeling instead of standing with the other players.
People and fans were outraged a player would do such a thing such as disrespecting the veterans and the country. This controversy went viral all over every news source because a player of a league that represents the nation has disrespected the nation.
After the game, Colin Kaepernick stated in an interview, “I'm not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.”

In other words, Colin Kaepernick didn't kneel to disrespect the veterans or the country. He did it to fight for human rights and the oppression of people of color.
This controversy with the NFL leads to a huge problem. In the end of the 2016 season, Colin Kaepernick opted out his contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He is now a free agent, and the question still remains whether it was it the right thing to do. Colin Kaepernick hasn't been on a team ever since.
Since Colin Kaepernick has left the NFL, he has funded a Know Your Rights Camp. According to the website knowyourrightscamp.com, it's a free campaign to help young adult with higher education and learn about the law enforcement.
“I feel like Colin Kaepernick is doing the right thing but he needs to be careful with what he does and to whom he shows, there's a lot of people who will take a bad view of what you're doing but I support him 100 percent,“ said Carlos Ramirez, a sportswurlz critic.
In recent news, Donald Trump stated on Twitter, “Our Great American Flag (or Country) should stand for the National Anthem if not, YOU'RE FIRED. Find something else to do." Donald Trump is relying on Roger Goodman the NFL Commissioner to take a stand to solve this issue.
In a survey conducted in San Jose, California, I had asked people in my family if what Donald Trump said about the NFL is right. The majority of them said yes because as a player of the NFL you need to show pride in the country you represent. For those who said no, they believed that Trump is going too far with the situation. Therefore, the NFL completely ignores President Trump’s comments and demands.
Since Donald Trump's comments, the NFL has taken a different stand with the situation. In a recent football game, when the Cardinals faced the Cowboys during the national anthem, most players from both teams took a knee not only to support Colin Kaepernick, but to show Trump what side the NFL is on. So, let me ask you a question- whose side are you on?
