Many high school students plan to head to college for a brighter future. However, they soon come to the reality that it may be out of reach for them. When it comes to tuition, not everybody has the resources to fully pay it and that can become a struggle. Aside from tuition, students would also have to pay for other necessities like food, textbooks, furniture if they chose to dorm, etc.
Planning your route to go to college can already have stress written all over it. For example, the average cost for a full four year in public would be about $25,200 and in a private school is about $50,900 according to Editorial Hungry, homeless and in college from The Philadelphia Inquirer. This amount for tuition is increasingly putting college out of reach.
For instance, the governor of New Mexico announced back on September 18, 2019, that there was a plan to give free tuition to the residents since college affordability was a key topic on a 2020 campaign trial. This would mean that it would be committed to helping students pay full costs such as attendance, tuition, books, etc.
Additionally, according to the article Editorial Hungry, and homeless and in college from The Philadelphia Inquirer, 86,000 students at 123 colleges who took a survey normally don’t have enough money for food.
Financial decisions can come across students, one of them is applying for loans.
Antonio Ruiz a senior at Wasco High School says, “ I would probably ask for loans from a bank, might be risky but its a risk im willing to take”
Loans are the greater percent of the burden of higher education according to the article Ameritech financial: increasingly students ask for help with college tuition through crowdfunding from PR Newswire. Crowdfunding is when students ask for help using websites like GoFundMe.
