At first many people that move from one place to another think it is the worst idea. Jasmine Sinlao is one of those people, but eventually she grew into loving it and would call it her new home.
The year of 2017 after 8th grade graduation, Jasmine Sinlao, who is a junior at Yerba Buena High School, moved from Santa Clara to San Jose.
She wasn’t alone on this move; she had her parents Philip and Gladdys and her two little sisters Kyleigh and Kierra.
Jasmine didn’t like the idea of making new friends because she was very shy but she also wanted to make a new image of herself.
“People don’t know you, and you get to make a better impression of yourself so it feels great,” she explains.
Before she moved to San Jose she was a different person. She was very quiet, shy, and didn’t go out as much.
Jasmine did not go out back then because she and her old friends were introverts.
“We were bored and didn’t do much,” she said.
They were emotionally there for her but when it was to hang out together they were really awkward not having much to talk about. “We seemed really off,” she said.
In San Jose, her boyfriend and new friends helped her get out of her comfort zone. It was something she didn’t think it was possible, but she’s happy it happened.
“Attending the new school everyday made me more used to the area, which made me get used to it and call it my home” says Jasmine.
Her boyfriend made a huge impact in her life because meeting his family made her learn to give respect to her own and other families in her life.
Jasmine really looks up to her mom. Gladdys works two jobs with three children, which is a hassle. Experiencing her mom work at home and other jobs helps Jasmine realize she could work as twice as hard like her mother.
This move was important to her because she met the people who made a big impact in her life. It tells us that all she needed to do is have the right people around her that would make her comfortable with being herself.
