Stress is something we all have experienced before. Every single student out there has gone through an excessive amount of stress, although this varies depending on their responsibilities and life circumstances. Stress can become a huge problem for many students who don’t handle it correctly as it can lead to poor performances in school and also lead to health problems among students.
Stress has been affecting me negatively and positively for a long period of time in my high school years. It has made me worry on tests and quizzes I have tried my best on because of the stress caused by trying to get good grades.
Stress is a way of telling our bodies to flee from the danger at hand, a reaction by faster heart beats, tightened muscles, an increase of blood pressure, and heavy/quicker breathing, according to helpguide.org. If experienced too much, these effects, can lead to depression, anxiety, diabetes, sleep problems, and other negative outcomes.

But stress isn’t always necessarily bad. Stress can also become beneficial for you as well, by allowing you to actively prioritize difficult assignments or quizzes/tests. Your body reacts to this by allowing you to focus more than usual. Whereas, if your body doesn’t face stress, it’s easier to procrastinate a lot to the point where you are left with no time, leading to cramming an excessive amount of work just to finish.
Jenny Nguyen, a Yerba Buena High School senior, has been affected by large amounts of stress throughout her years of school, especially now as she is going into her last year and hoping to pass all of her classes to get into a college she is wishing for.
Jenny has gone through a lot of stress this year dealing with college season, signing up for colleges that she wants to get into, worrying about her grades, and being a club officer for Vietnamese Student Association. How Jenny handles stress is by spending time with her friends and grabbing a meal with them to be kept company and get away from the stress she has dealt with in the past. Jenny also says that stress is helpful to her because it motivates her to finish her work on time.. “Yes, I wanted to get rid of stress, so I finished my work and completed my assignments earlier than usual,” she said.
Overall, there is a degree to which stress can harm a person and become a problem in their daily life. If handled correctly , you can relieve yourself to improve and not have to deal with too much stress by completing your work, getting the grades you want to get, and handling situations that lead to stress by getting help from a friend or anyone who would support you.
