When it comes to the topic of gun control, many of us will readily agree that the United States is more dangerous due to more people dying from guns than any other developed countries. Where this usually ends, however, is on the question of whether the United States really does care about people's safety.
While some are convinced that having a gun can be used as self defense, others claim that people allowed to own or buy a gun is dangerous and shouldn’t be allowed. In retrospect, I believe that guns should only be in the possession of certain people, such as police officers and security guards.
Accordingly to an article “Guns defend good people from bad people,” Gene Hoffman says, “The U.S. Department of Justice reports that guns are used 1,500,000 times a year to successfully defend good people from bad people—almost always without the firing of a single shot.” This shows that guns can be used to saves lives or protect people from danger.
However, Stephanie Nguyen, a student from Yerba Buena High School, stated that she agrees guns should be limited to certain people.
“So far I have heard or read online that people are dying from guns than they are being saved by guns, she says.
In the article, “America needs to limit access to guns”, Editorial Board says “In Colorado Springs, a man went on a shooting rampage Saturday morning, indiscriminately killing three people before he died in a shootout with police.” This gives us insight of how guns are very dangerous and it has been causing lots of innocent people dying.
In order to prevent innocent people from dying, we need to act now before it's too late. For example, in the article “How to Reduce Mass Shooting Deaths? Experts Rank Gun Laws,” Margot Sanger Katz said, “The most effective one, according to our experts, would be restricting gun sales to anyone found guilty of a violent crime. Under federal law, such limitations apply to those convicted of felonies or domestic violence crimes.” I agree with this example because it shows that if we follow this idea by restricting gun sales to people then that as a result, will prevent innocent people from dying.
In conclusion, many people will stop dying if we make gun control more strict. In order to keep the people safe in America, we need to stop selling guns to people and prevent them from owning one.
