Imagine waking up and getting ready to go to a place with exotic animals, beautiful flowers, amazing food and fun rides, well that’s Happy Hollow for you.
Happy Hollow was built in 1961, by the former mayor of San Jose Ernest E. Renzel and Alden Campen who were in a organization called Jaycees. Jaycees is a organization that helps eighteen to forty year old become a leader.
Happy Hollow is important to San Jose because it is a mini Disneyland. Happy Hollow has lots of rides and Disneyland also has a lot of rides. Another similarity between Happy Hollow and Disneyland is the amount of people that go to both places. Happy Hollow is one of the funnest places you can go at the cost of only fourteen dollars. It is nice to see exotic animals and enjoy the rides there.
The first time I went to Happy Hollow was about 5 years ago. I went with my mom, sister, grandpa, grandma, and other relatives. Happy Hollow impacted my life by making it a positive and caring life because i didn’t care about animal life when i was a kid but now i do care about animals and other people's lives. Another impact was when me and my family bonded and it made me happy because that was the first time my family was happy.
Recently I went to Happy Hollow, and it was fantastic to see different things. People were screaming in rides having fun, animals eating, people petting goats and cows, the smell of hot dogs and buttery popcorn
Someone I interviewed is my friend Christaval, he was nine years old when he first experienced going to Happy Hollow. “I went in the morning and it wasn’t even opened and I had to stay there until six.” I then asked, what was your first thoughts of Happy Hollow, and he said “ I thought it was a kid’s amusement park and it was a childish place to go”.
Another person I interviewed is Enrique Flores, a parks and recreation employee. I asked, why is Happy Hollow a park and a zoo, he said “Happy Hollow is a park and a zoo because Happy Hollow has exotic animals that are included within the park department.” Another thing I asked Enrique Flores was, what is the most interesting thing that you have seen in Happy Hollow, he said “ a falcon demonstration by a contracted animal company.” Basically a falcon doing tricks by a trained falcon handler.
According to Enrique Flores, a Parks and recreation employee, “about 12 million people per year go to happy hollow” and that's a lot for a place that only san jose resident know about. Another thing that i asked is how much money does it cost for the food for the animals and Enrique Flores said “the cost ranges to about fifty thousand to one hundred thousand.”
Happy Hollow is important to San Jose residents because if Ernest E. Renzel and Alden Campen didn’t think of Happy Hollow then we wouldn’t have a place that is fun and amazing.
