Hip-hop artists have so much power in the things they say. Most of the hip hop scene is doing drugs, and committing crimes that they talk about in their music. But they also help people with serious problems such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
Hip-hop is one of the biggest outlets of music right now. There are so many rappers blowing up, and their influence will stick with our generation for a long time. Kids are now using hard drugs like Molly, Xanax, PCP, and Promethazine. There are even teens replicating videos that rapper Lil Pump has done and posted on Instagram. Other people as well play a major influence in the youth. John Gabanna, formerly known as Book, stole a plethora of things, varying from iPhones, to cars, to drugs and teens and adults alike have been recording themselves stealing things as well just for clout (popularity). They are known as ‘clout chasers.’
As much as some rappers negatively influence the youth, others also influence the youth positively. Mental disorders are major in our lives. Sometimes we can feel so insignificant and lonely and that we are nothing for no reason. A lot of people I know have these types of emotions. My friends Amber, Ivan, and Robert have all struggled with these feelings.
Ivan told me, “There were times where I was nothing but alone in my thoughts and to get me out of that hole, rap and music in general was my ladder.”
He was stuck, and just like many others, music saved them. Myself included.
I was numb, I felt little to no emotion, and I hated every day of my life and was just miserable. Artists have played such a major role in my life that I have to listen to a certain pair of artists on a daily basis.
Trippie Redd’s album ‘LIFE’S A TRIP’ helped me greatly. I was experiencing hardships at the time that made me feel alone, useless, and unwanted.
His album helped me release all of the emotions I had repressed and the album saved my life. He went from a sentimental and closure filled song, to an upbeat, good mood song.
He is an artist I have to listen to everyday and he will leave his mark in the music world.
The long term effects of hip hop and music in general will be felt through generations. From artists like XXXTENTACION to John Legend, they will always find ways to connect with the listener.
