I have a friend who is my pet. My pet, Turkey. My pet, “Turkey” is really my cat named Turkey. I never thought I would have a close connection with something that isn’t human, but a cat.
Many memories have been made over the past two years. The best memory was my cat and I playing with a laser as she somersaulted.
Originally, my mom wasn’t interested in getting a pet, but clearly, that changed.
There was an event nearby that was giving cats and dogs away for free from a shelter. My mom wanted to just look at the animals, not to adopt.
My brother and I planned on convincing my mom to get us a pet. We saw a picture of a cat named “Arya” and we all fell in love. Next thing you know she was coming home with us.
The day after I got her, I realized I had red hives, itchy and runny eyes. I was hoping I wasn’t having an allergic reaction.
I went to the doctors and found out I was allergic to both cats and dogs. I was devastated, but I didn’t want to return her. A few weeks pass by and It seems like I’ve become immune to my allergy.
The name Arya was changed immediately since it didn’t suit her, but we still didn’t know what to name her. We thought her name was going to be “Gypsy,” but that changed to “Turkey” since she reminded us of a cooked turkey.
Something that went over my head was the responsibility that came with owning a pet. She taught me to be responsible, feed her, give her clean water, clean her litter box, and worst of all give her a shower.
Not only is she my pet, but she’s my best companion.
