During elementary/middle school, I was always one of the shortest kids in my class.
As a joke, my friends would talk about my height. They would call me a midget them calling these phrases made me feel sad and insecure.
When walking past other students, they would mock my height, putting a hand over their eyes as if they were looking for me. In reality, I’m right under them.
A memory that sticks with me of being made fun of was with my seventh grade class picture. Looking at the class picture, most of my friends were on the top and middle stands while I was sitting at the bottom.
Another memorable memory that I had was during eighth grade promotion. I was insecure to take pictures with certain people that were taller than me because I didn’t want to seem like the odd one out. Most of my friends at the time was taller than me so standing next to them made me quite insecure.
During eighth grade I was around 5’3. It wasn’t until my freshman year of high school where I started growing taller. During ninth grade, I surprisingly grew up to 5’6. During sophomore year, I grew two more inches, totalling up to 5’8. Now, in the beginning of my junior year, I am 5’9.
Throughout my elementary and middle school years, my mindset has changed drastically. From my personal experience, I learned that you have to be patient with yourself and to keep in mind that things do get better.
