According to….astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world.
Some people feel that zodiac signs are accurate to their personality. I surveyed a couple of my peers at Yerba Buena High School and received a total of 66 responses.
A few questions I asked were, “Do you know what zodiac sign you are?”, “Do you feel your zodiac sign is accurate to your personality?”, and “Do you keep up with your daily horoscopes?”.
For the first question 64 people responded “yes” and only 2 people answered “no”. That’s quite a big contrast on the people who said no. Meaning people really went out their way and were interested in looking up what their sign was.
This app (Daily Horoscopes) allows us to see our daily horoscopes. One of the questions on the survey was if they had kept up with their daily horoscopes. Only 65 people had responded. 14 of them said “yes”, 21 answered “no”, and the rest try to keep up with their daily horoscope.
The next question I asked was if their zodiac sign was accurate to their personality. 60 people out of the 66 people responded saying “yes”, 3 said “no” and the other 3 didn’t know their sign. From the 66 people that had answered this survey, a vast majority of them believe that zodiac signs are accurate to their personality. I decided to take this a step further and asked individual signs.
Instead of interviewing each sign I decided to interview a sign from each element.
Elements (noun): The 12 signs of zodiac astrology are broken down into four essential elements of fire, earth, air, and water with each bearing an influence on personality traits.
According to “Astrology Zodiac Signs”, the fire signs are known as Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The water signs are Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio and for the earth signs they are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Finally, the air signs are Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra.
Veronica Avila, a senior at Yerba Buena High School, is a Leo from the fire element. At first she had not believed in astrology and the wonders it has to offer until recently when one of her friends explained it to her more. She has this app on her phone (Daily Horoscopes) that informs her on the daily what her sign feels like or is going through in that present time. She doesn’t spend too much time on the app but when she does it feels like it’s always right and matches her personality.
“When people ask me what sign I am, I answer Leo and they automatically don’t like me, which then I take it more serious as well and it helps me know who I’m more compatible with,” Veronica said.
Although Veronica feels like her daily horoscopes match her personality, she feels that some of the things it says for Leos is somewhat true for her but not all is true. She’s read that Leos are selfish and she feels that she isn’t selfish.
James Le, another senior at Yerba Buena High School, is a Virgo from the earth element. He believes that his horoscope is accurate to his personality. Some things he’s heard and seen are that Virgos are loyal, good at showing love, and look for long term friends. James agrees with that. On his app Daily Horoscopes he’s seen that Virgos are hard to read and don’t like to take risk and would rather take the safer path.
An Troung, who is also a senior at Yerba Buena High School, is a Libra from the air element. He also feels his zodiac sign/Daily Horoscopes is accurate to his personality and that it relates to his current life. An checks his daily horoscopes once in a while.
An said, “There was this one time when I read my horoscope and it was talking about my life situation and how I was financially and it scared me a bit because at the time I had a lot of job opportunities.”
An felt shocked because it was bizarre how accurate his horoscope was to his current circumstances.
Another senior I interviewed, Christian Batres, from Yerba Buena High School, is a Pisces from the water element. He believes that his personality is accurate to the horoscope that represents him.
“This one time it said that I was nice, trustworthy, and wise, so I asked a couple of my friends ‘what words would describe me best?’ And they all answered what my horoscope had said about me.”
He found that pretty interesting and ever since he started believing in astrology. He said, “I experienced this with my ex-girlfriend who was a sagittarius and we didn’t get along at all. When we broke up I checked on my daily horoscope app if we were compatible or not and it said we didn’t get along very well which made me believe in it even more.”
As a Leo, I believe the horoscopes about me match my personality because of how much I relate to it. I check my horoscopes when I have time to and when I do it’s always accurate. Whether I’m going through a break up, pursuing my passions, my financial status, or if i’m going through something emotionally. It gets creepy sometimes because of how accurate they are. I have a few friends that are very into astrology and had predicted my zodiac sign based on how I act around them and have told me that I was a strong leo which made me believe in it even more.
Astrology has been very popular in this generation and for most people these zodiac signs are accurate to their personalities. On the survey I made, a very high percentage of people believe that horoscopes are accurate to their personalities, as well as the four students I interviewed randomly based on their elements.
There will always be a variety of personalities, so for horoscopes to be accurate for most people is pretty incredible.
