Amazon has become number two on annual companies due to Linkedin. Linkedin is a company that provides help to people to look for jobs or offer employments. The Seattle Times reported that Amazon has become one of the largest companies in Seattle. Amazon’s headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington which explains why it’s one of Amazon’s largest location.

“I believe that Amazon is doing great because it’s fast and easy to find what you’re looking for,” said Juanita Garcia, a student from Yerba Buena High School.
The Atlantic announced that Amazon started from $16 billion to $80 billion from 2010 to 2016, when Sears only made $22 billion last year. Retail stores can’t keep up with Amazon.
Amazon has Prime Day every year that gives the chance for members to buy with a huge discount.
A survey I conducted around Yerba Buena High School asking if they thought Amazon is causing stores to close. Only 8 students said yes, 1 said no, and 2 said not sure.
For example, if Sears, JCPenney, and Macy’s go bankrupt, malls would have to close due to earning most of their money on major anchors. This can affect our local malls because small chain stores won’t keep malls open.
I believe that stores are also closing due to no updates on new fashion or attention grabbers for customers. People would just go to stores to look around for deals. If there’s a long line to pay, most people just leave the items to go somewhere else.
“I prefer shopping online because it’s easier than looking for parking and waiting in a long line.” said Juanita Garcia.
In the Bay Area, 5 Gymborees, 5 Crazy 8s, and 1 Janie and Jack stores are closing in this instance. At Eastridge mall, the Crazy 8 store is empty. The only thing left are the posters saying, “Everything must go.” This problem is occurring all around the United States.
Maria Garcia prefers shopping at physical stores because she is, “able to look at the items and choose them at the moment at retail stores.”
When Walmart closed around 269 stores, CNN Money reported that about 16,000 workers would be affected. Walmart shared that their company fell 30% in money during the year 2015.
Some people don’t have access to internet, so what are they going to do if retail stores wipe out and just online shopping existed?
