Superheroes are very important for little kids. Some kids love it because of the action and killing and them getting the bad guys. For Ken Banh, a Yerba Buena student, superheroes taught him more than that. It helped him learn and understand a sense of justice.
Ken's household was quite different because his dad was always working and his mom never was close to him.
For Ken his childhood mostly revolved around superheroes. Superheroes would be some type of escape for him since his “parents were bad people.”
He would see how time passes that they would make a big influence on him.
Ken did have siblings but there was a big gap between them, so he really never had a good relationship which affected him because he didn't have anyone to connect with in the household.
Superheroes would help him become who he is. They showed him right from wrong. Ken’s distraction would be superheroes or his cat. In some way Ken learn how to be good and respectful in a way his parents couldn’t teach him. Seeing superheroes in movies or just reading the comics influenced him to become a better person.
Even growing up Ken still didn't have a relationship with his family. Ken didn't like going on trips with the family because it wouldn’t be fun. He just like to stay at home, his room and reading comics about superheroes.
Ken says about his family trips, “they would get annoying and it wouldn’t be fun.”
Ken still loves watching superheroes. One memory he has is when he went to go watch Avengers: Endgame. He said, “This was a memorable moment because he grew up watching all of the movies and the final movie had it feel complete.”
Ken Banh is now a Senior at Yerba Buena High School and is still a fan of superheroes and is grateful that they have impacted him.
