We see trash cans every single day and yet we still see trash on the floor. Have you ever wondered where all that trash goes? Sure, they end up the sewers, but there’s not enough knowledge on where it goes after. If you live in California the garbage is mostly going to Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
According to One Green Plant says “Every year at least 8 million pieces are being thrown into the ocean and they say that each year it will get worse.” The ocean has been dramatically going through one of the biggest obstacles due to the trash.
Now that the numbers have added up, so has the waste.
Now it's affecting the animals that live in the ocean. It's currently damaging the healthy and there living situation. Animals are being injured by getting caught onto the plastic or the fish nets that the fisherman leave behind. Even worse animals are eating the plastic which is even worse. When animals to eat plastic they are most luckily to die since there body is used to the trash.
When animals eat plastic it's not just hurting them it's hurting the humans.
When people are eating fish they don't actually know the history of the fish. The fish are usually all over the ocean so they could have been near the garbage patch. The fish could have eaten a piece of plastic or could have been near all that garbage.
According to the article Great Pacific Garbage Patch Affecting Sea Life says “...about 10% show fish have ingested plastic.” The research is showing that if keep on throwing garbage the animals that we most luckily are probably contaminated with plastic.
Or what if one day the ocean is fully contaminated with the garbage. This lead to days going to the beach and our environment would lead to many animals being extinct. This would most likely come true if we contribute with the plastic. We have to see the bigger picture because now it's not just affecting the ocean, it will affect the world.
With the amount of garbage that is placed in the ocean will only grow more if people keep on using plastic and keep on throwing their garbage wherever they want. We the people should think about the future of the world.
Yes, you may not hear often in the news not like other issues but yet it is still happening.
Of course it will take forever for all the trash to be gone from the ocean. But if we stop from putting more than the world and the oceans will have a better future. All the sea animals will live longer and the risk of extinction will be lower. As well the animals homes will still be there.
But there is always a way to solve a problem. Jennifer Slimms from NOAA Marine Debris Program, says, “The NOAA Marine Debris Program funds partners who conduct projects in either prevention, removal, or research. We are seeing the programs that help ocean clean ups or helping in other ways.”
If everyone in the world would help then the problem wouldn’t even be that big. Like Alejandra Gomez, a girl that lives in the bay area knowing every little about the situation in the ocean.
When asked if she contribute by using plastic, she says, “Yes but now that I know how big the problem is I will not be using plastic useless, I know where it’s going.” This shows that people don’t know how big the situation is and we should.
As we have seen the garbage patch is a very important issue. Not just animals getting affected by the situation but the people and the world. And if we want that to stop it. The people have to make a change.
