There’s about 25.8 percent of children who live their lives with a single parent in the United States, according to The New York Times.

Growing up without a father or a role model of your gender can alter the structure of the brain by developing deviant behavior. Psychological studies show that children growing up without fathers are more likely to be aggressive and quick to anger.
Single parent families tend to have more difficulties in life than couples do. Single parent families have double the work, they stress and get anxiety about money problems, and they’re always in need for monetary support. Also, single parents miss their kids when they’re with their other parent.
Jane, an old friend of mine, said “Single parents and their children tend to have double the difficulties in life”. They basically have to do everything independently. Pay the rent and bills on their own without or with the help of child support. Give time to their children. Feed their children and chores. They become more stressed and get anxiety.
Jane also told me the strengths about being parentless. Some of the strengths of being parentless are you could do whatever you want to do without having to deal with disagreements or arguments with anybody. It’s all on your own.
Another strength of being parentless is good role modeling for the child. The couple might separate due to a parent being a bad influence on the child because of drug addictions or alcoholism. The child is taught and raised with the parents that will positively affect them on who they will become in the future.
I did a survey on the Yerba Buena High School campus asking students, “Do you think a single father/mother goes through more rough difficult moments than couples do?” A majority answered yes and few were not sure.
I asked them another question, “What do you think are the main causes of becoming a single parent? Divorce or Death?“ Half of the respondents said divorce and the other half said death.
Single parents will always be in the need of help no matter what. They go through double the work and difficulties in their lives, not just the parents, but also the children.
