It was a fresh sunny day, when my sister and I decided to go to the park. I was a huge fan of soccer before my sister started teaching me how to play basketball. After that day at the park, I knew that basketball was going to be my new favorite sport.
It was a really good sunny day to go to the park. Although I didn’t like basketball at all I would still go to the park with my sister to accompany her. My sister was always really good at basketball; she would always want to go to the park just to play. We didn’t have a basketball court at home but that didn’t stop her from practicing. Sometimes at home she would go outside in the front yard and just dribble for a long time. That day at the park I decided to try and play basketball because it looked like she was having fun playing it. At first I thought basketball was boring. But after playing it for a while I was having a lot of fun. Then I decided that basketball was going to be my new sport to play.
My sister Jazmine said “I started to like basketball around the year 2010, the summer before my freshman year.” As a result, my sister became really good at basketball and she even joined the basketball team here at YB her freshman year. Sadly she messed up her ankle and wasn’t able to play the other seasons. But as her ankle got better she started to play more and got even better at the game.
My sister became like my personal coach and she taught me everything I needed to know about basketball. She taught me how to dribble, shoot, how to layup, and also how to defend. Jazmine said, “ it was interesting teaching you how to play because you loved soccer, and teaching you how to play was actually fun. I saw you grow, become stronger and a better player”. I still remember when my sister and I would play 1v1’s and she would smack me every single time. Now she struggles to beat me. As you can expect, she coached me skillfully.

After all the days of hard work and practice, It paid off. I became good at the game and it made me a really competitive person. Overall I’m glad I decided to try out basketball. Without it, it wouldn’t have made me the person I am today.
