Something that has always been brought up in my family is college. They expect me to get the best grades and go straight to a university, but is that really the best option? Is it the only way to succeed in life?
College prices have been increasing worldwide throughout the years and it has me thinking, is it still worth it? Most of the students who graduate from college either come out in great debt or don't even end up pursuing the career they spent all those years in college for.
When I asked my mom how she felt about me not going to college she said, “You should rethink that option because without an education you will get nowhere in life.”
In my opinion, college isn't for everyone, not everyone has the money to pay for college tuition. According to Bigfuture.collegeboard.org, a simple degree for a public four year college is about $9,400 dollars and to get a college degree out of the state is about $23,890.
Teachers expect students to just arrive to a classroom and just do the worksheets given. Not all students have the same learning abilities as others, some students learn better hands on or one-on-one, but not all teachers are willing to provide students with the help they need to thrive. Some students are afraid to ask for help or they feel ignored and just give up in that class.
According to dosomething.org, at least 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the US alone. That's one student every 26 seconds which is equivalent to 7,000 students a day.
Everybody has their different ways of getting through life. For example, there are people who stream video games on apps like Twitch and Youtube, and the more viewers they get, the more money they earn.
For example, a Twitch streamer, who goes by the name Ninja, has been playing video games since he was ten years old with his older brother. All that gaming turned him into one of the best Fortnite gamers in the world. Ninja now streams his gameplays and has earned 3 million subscribers in less than a month of streaming. He earns almost half a million dollars a month for simply playing video games.
Ever since I started school, I've never really felt connected to it, I feel like students shouldn't be stressing out over some paper that later on in life it’s not going to mean anything to us.
