Music is something we are all familiar with and can do a lot for people. Music can help people who are feeling stressed out or are feeling down, but the lyrics in songs can help them feel that they are not alone.
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember and it has helped me express myself more easily; when I can’t tell people how I feel, music always helps me connect with my feelings more easily and a few songs that I listen to are “So Far Away” by Martin Garrix & David Guetta (ft. Jamie Scott & Romy Dya), “Sad Machine” by Porter Robinson (Darren Styles & Gammer remix).
Depending on my mood, I search types of music with a vibe that connects with how I feel. If I were to listen to a slow and deep song, you’d think that I am sad and feeling down. An example of a deep song I listen to when I’m feeling down is “All I Got” by Said the Sky and Kwesi. This song is about the artist his significant other If I am listening to a fast and upbeat song, you can assume that I feel happy and that everything is going well for me. An example is “Emotion” by Uppermost. In this song, the beat hypes me up and helps me feel motivated. I also perform better when I play my video games when this song is on.
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is my favorite type of music to listen to because it has such a huge variety such as house, tropical house, trap, chill trap, and so on. No matter how I feel, I always have a genre I can rely on and listen to; my favorites are house, trap, and dubstep. I listen to house often when I am feeling relaxed or a bit down since it’s a calm, rhythmic genre. Trap and dubstep are the genres that hype me up or I just like to listen to whenever things are going okay and I feel normal.
Music is like that friend who is always there for you whenever you need it. Whenever you feel a certain way and you listen to music, you don’t just hear the song, you can feel the song resonate inside of you and you can relate to the words in the song. The songs help me whenever I am going through a rough time by giving me that motivation I need to power through with the day.
For example when I was in 7th grade, I got bullied a lot. It affected my self-esteem, and it was extra difficult because my family was falling apart. Fortunately, I had music right there to help me get through it, such as JPB’s remix version of Krys Talk’s song “Fly Away.” My interpretation of this song is that I could fly away from my problems and temporarily escape from the pain.
As music legend Keith Richards once said, “Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones.”
